Types of Weddings

There are different types of weddings – some that vary by the destination country’s own laws, others that are entirely dependant on the resort and/or the wedding couple themselves – below is a quick overview of the different types of ceremonies available.

For specifics as they pertain to the destination and/or resort you’ve selected for your nuptials, please be sure to speak with your Group Expert.

  • Religious – This is a wedding performed by a church, which when it comes to destination weddings, are largely considered symbolic (and not legally binding) by the host country;
  • Symbolic – This type of ceremony is performed by a non-denominational minister at your resort of choice. Restrictions apply depending on the destination;
  • Renewal of vows – This is a symbolic ceremony (see above);
  • Civil ceremony – This is a legally recognized ceremony and is performed by a judge (restrictions apply depending on the destination);
  • Indian & South Asian wedding ceremonies – There are a variety of resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico that offer extravagant Indian and South Asian wedding packages featuring a host of impressive services such as traditional cuisine, décor and more. Ask your Group Expert for more information.
  • Same-sex marriages (civil ceremonies) – There are some destinations, such as parts of Mexico, where same-sex marriages are now legal. Please speak to your Group Experts to find out more.
